Fancy renovating your pad to look like a Wallpaper* location without paying Wallpaper* prices? Schönhauser, in Berlin’s trendy Mitte, has a very impressive collection of GDR design furniture items from orange plastic scoop chairs to perspex light fittings and egg cup sets in their original packaging. Appropriately housed in a GDR ‘Plattenbau’ – a 1970s’ building of pre-cast concrete slabs so beloved of the eastern bloc – they also sell some contemporary kitsch bits. They are sold separately from the furniture and don’t distract from the aesthetic pleasure.
