Round the corner from his now classic Kleines Café, actor Hanno Pöschl has opened a cool Beisl, sporting the optimistic name of Immervoll – always full. This vaulted premises has been given the once-over by architect Hermann Czech, famed for his work on the Loos Bar, the Kleines and the MAK Café. As for the food, Pöschl rightly believes that Viennese classics such as roast pork, cabbage and dumplings can and do compare proudly with more fêted cuisines. The menu changes daily with a choice of seven starters and main courses, some of which have a more Italian bent, and are all extremely good value.

Le Macon
This is a good unpretentious neighbourhood restaurant, which you might want to consider if you want to sample the ever-popular moules or steak-frites. There won’t be many tourists here but you will find locals who know where to find good food at very reasonable prices. Other dishes on the menu include skate au beurre noir and Swiss fondue. The atmosphere is friendly and in the winter you’ll have the benefit of a log fire. On Thursday nights, a Swiss-style menu is served for those pining for Alpine comforts.
